A Harmony of Contrasts and the Touch of Fire The SUMI I earrings tell a story of two worlds meeting: raw, organic texture and pure geometry. They were inspired by modern minimalism, where the very structure of the material, rather than excessive ornamentation, creates the entire effect. The distinct cutout in the center of the wooden element adds lightness and makes them play intriguingly with the light as you move.
Craftsmanship Born of Passion Every single pair of SUMI I earrings goes on a long journey before it reaches your hands. The exotic Sapeli wood is hand-cut and meticulously sanded in our workshop. We then subject it to our own interpretation of the Japanese Shou Sugi Ban method – controlled firing with fire draws out a deep, almost mystical black from the wood and beautifully highlights its natural grain. To ensure the earrings retain their beauty for years to come, we seal them with a completely safe lacquer that protects the structure while remaining satin-smooth to the touch.
Despite their bold dimensions, these earrings are surprisingly lightweight – weighing just over 4 grams, ensuring full wearing comfort all day long.
